Center City Alive After Five is back again this year on Thursday nights to entertain you. With some of the best tribute and local bands there is lots of music to be heard, food to be eaten, drinks to be consumed, and lots of fun to be had! The best of all of this? It is free!
You heard it right, free, every Thursday night at the Wachovia Atrium and Plaza. It is in uptown Charlotte with plenty of areas to sit and enjoy the hot summer nights and the hot music as well. It starts at 5:30pm and lasts till 9:30pm. It lasts for 17 weeks, with the final performance on August 30, 2007.
Each year families, co-workers, couples, and friends join each other in this popular hot spot to take in the free festivities and relieve a little pressure from their everyday life. You can find people dancing in the street, talking on a bench, or just hanging out.
It is simply what you do on Thursdays!
It’s official! The Wachovia Championship teed off this morning at 7:10AM. The Quail Hollow Club is now bustling with some of the best Professional golfers in the world, including the top 29 of 30 players on the PGA tour, including the number one golfer in the world… Tiger Woods!
This is very exciting for Charlotte! Since the inception of this tournament, it has gained in popularity with everyone noticing not only how beautiful Charlotte is as a city, but how wonderful the golf courses are. Tickets are already sold out, but there is always hope for next year. What is great about this tournament, is that proceeds go to charity, unlike so many other tournaments. In fact, since it started in 2003, they have raised over $5.6 million!
Michael Jordan went back to his college hometown when he joined Tiger Woods on the golf course yesterday for some fun times and competitive golf. Together they made quite a stir among the crowd that came to see them.

With all the great weather and the springtime (or summer depending how hot it is) being here, it is a perfect time to take the family to the University of North Carolina Botanical Gardens. The variety of flowers are absolutely amazing!! Hundreds and hundreds of flowers from roses, to crepe myrtles, to orchids are just everywhere you look.
They have three main gardens that consists of over 10 acres along with a fabulous greenhouse. It is a two-story simulated rain forest!! It houses desert plants that you normally can’t see here in Charlotte. The Oriental gazebo winter garden is in the Susie Harwood Garden, and that alone is well worth the trip.
The gardens were founded in the 1960’s and have just been getting better and better. The kids will love it, and most importantly you will love it!
I’ve been there and it was so incredibly peaceful and beautiful. We went there with my son about a year ago, and I did something that you will see many people do. I took his 3 year old pictures there instead of getting boring, stiff pictures taken at some of the local picture places. There are fabulous opportunities to get “real” pictures that look so much more alive and exciting then the typical portrait studios. Just a suggestion though!
Now get over there before it gets too hot! Enjoy.
It’s going to be a scorcher out there today! Be forewarned people of Charlotte, NC, it is going to be hotter than a model on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. BUT… It’s not even nearly as hot as it is going to be. Granted, people who live in Arizona, and Texas have it worse, but I’m really not above complaining. When it gets up to 105 degrees here we have that pesky little thing called humidity. From the end of May to the end of September it is H.U.M.I.D. with a capital H. Unfortunate but true.
So for tomorrow, head to the beach! Wait, there isn’t one is there? Okay, head to the lake! Head to a swimming pool! Heck, head for your sprinkler if you have one - just stay cool!
Lake Norman in the Charlotte area is a fabulous place to go on a day like today. Get the picnic ready and enjoy the water.
