Don’t get me wrong; I like the blogs on the Charlotte Observer’s website. But there’s one that kinda set me off a bit recently.

Y’see, The Americana, a restaurant/general-store concept that, I suppose, was influenced by the famous Cracker Barrel chain, is really a welcome and blooming addition to Pineville’s geography (and, listen … I’m a native of the town, so it’s the truth!).
A mix of fine, down-home cookin’ and locally produced goods and merchandise, it presents the ambience that is Pineville’s trademark: hometown, friendly andeasy-going! Tuesdays through Sundays it features a live bluegrass, gospel or jazz band (again, following the “taste of the old town”). It also offers a “brunch” (combo breakfast/lunch) on Sundays.

Now, the lady in the blog seemed to complain a little about the cover charge on weekends after 9 PM … but, being a former performer who’s done more than his share of late-night gigs and knowing there’s more competition these days than in the old times, I can tell ya that every little bit of compensation these performers get helps. If they’re gonna pack up their equipment, travel, unload and set up equipment, rehearse, run through soundchecks, do their performance, pack up everything and travel back to wherever they’re from, they oughtta be paid — after all, it’s work!
