Hard Rock or Hard LUCK?

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Well, let’s face it … there isn’t much hope that a theme park, whether it’s a Hard Rock park or something else, will open in 2009 in Fantasy Harbor.

The Hard Rock Park, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection three months ago, is still looking for a buyer — with no luck.

An auction earlier this month with a minimum bid of $35 million failed to attract a winning buyer, according to court documents saying the park is still actively trying to find a buyer.

Public officials say the park would need millions in upgrades, including new rides, and marketing, and wouldn’t reopen until 2010. Months ago, a Hard Rock Park spokesman said the park couldn’t open in 2009 without a new owner.

If nobody buys the park, it’ll probably go into liquidation (the infamous “Chapter 7″ bankruptcy), or the judge could dismiss the case and those whom the park owed could foreclose on –or repossess — the property.
There’s already talk of turning into a residential/commercial district, a shopping strip-mall or property for condos and/or other housing.

Mark Lazarus, who owns Wild Water and Wheels in Surfside Beach, said he wants to see the park work, because it will draw more attention to all of Myrtle Beach’s entertainment venues. But he says it’ll take someone with some pretty deep pockets.

“To me, it never had the real right mix of rides in it, and it’s going to need some tweaking, and that takes money,” he said. “I certainly hope that somebody can come in and resurrect it and make a go at it, I do. I think it would be great for our whole economy.”

Hey … parks come and go, and it’s a cryin’ shame that this one did; but, remember, rock-n-roll (be it hard, soft, pop, Brit, alt or any other) will never die!

ABOUT MESOTHELIOMA

A few years ago, a national push began to remove all asbestos from schools, offices, homes and the like.  There’s a good reason for it; constant contact with the stuff can cause a terrible cancer called mesothelioma. It destroys the mesothelium, the serous membranes that surround many of the body’s vital organs — membranes that secrete a lubricant that provides easy movement of the internal organs.

If you or a loved one has this cancer, the link I’m about to give you will be of a tremendous help to you.  Even if you or yours don’t have mesothelioma, this is your chance to become well-informed about it!  I’ve seen a few of these cases personally (in my visits to Kentucky for the wrestling show), and I’m sure that, if you asked the hospitals, you’ll find it’s not uncommon here!

The site will give you so much information about the disease, along with pertinent news updates, recommended reading, clinical trials of different meds used to treat it, and much, much more.  You’ll even find treatment options and a state-by-state doctor search!

So, if you or a loved one has this cancer, or you just want to learn more about mesothelioma, just click that link, okay? You’ll be glad you did …

Two Legends Coming To Town

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Two legends are heading to the Queen City over the next week … in fact, on the same night!

First, one of the best-known songwriters/singers in the world is heading into Charlotte for a gig at the Time-Warner Cable Arena a week from today!
Neil Diamond, who cut his musical teeth as a songwriter in the legendary Brill Building in New York and developed into a fantastic singer in his own right, will be here as part of a new leg of a tour that had been interrupted by recurring throat problems. Fortunately, Diamond’s in fine voice now, and you can be assured of a wonderful night as he serenades you with hits from his past and present!

And soul artist John Legend – songwriter, pianist, singer and a man destined to become an icon in modern music — will be performing at Ovens Auditorium on the same night (and here’s a little 411: Just a few days later — the 28th, to be exact — Mr. Stephens [Legend's real last name] will be turning the ripe old age of 29!)

Either way, you can’t miss with these two powerhouses of sound and soul coming to town! Whether your taste in music is eclectic with a little rock thrown in, or soothing soul with some great piano work interlaced with it, you’re bound to find something you’re gonna fall in love with!

Now … doesn’t Christmas seem just a little merrier??

Andy and Opie and The Fonz LIVE!!!

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Awww, c’mon … you’re bound to have seen the best Obama campaign video EVER!!  If not, I’ll give you the link in just a minute.

Y’see, Ron Howard, Andy Griffith and Henry WInkler reprised their roles as Opie, Sheriff Andy Taylor and The Fonz (hmph … as if ya didn’t know, right??) for an ad touting Sen. Barack Obama as the best Presidential candidate.

If only for three minutes-and-change, we were taken back to Mayberry (okay, who down here doesn’t know where that is??) … and then to the leather-jacketed hero of Arnold’s, leanin’ against a ‘57 Chevy where Opie turned into Richie

Both vignettes caried the famous style of the TV shows on which they were based: Andy and “Ope” by the fishin’ hole, with the famous “whistling” tune was in the background (btw, the man who did the actual whistling, Earle Hagen – who also composed the tune called “The Fishin’ Hole” — died recently), was warm and family-oriented — and filmed in black-and-white!
The other one, with Richie and Fonzie, had the Fifties music in the background, the humor and coolness that’s identified with Winkler’s character — and even was the same-grade color film as the original show!

It’s one you’ve just gotta see!  Though just posted over the past coupla days, it’s already gotten nearly one million hits!

See for yourself at Funny-Or-Die.com.

Whether you’re votin’ for Obama or McCain, you’re still gonna enjoy the trip down memory lane (and, btw, Henry hasn’t lost “the look”) …

Gettin’ Ready For Elmo??

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Let’s face it … everybody loves Elmo, right?  If you’ve ever watched “Sesame Street”, or had one of those little “Tickle Me” dolls that would laugh like crazy and shake at the same time (sorta like a guy goin’ on his first date), you know what I’m talkin’ about.

And now  Elmo’s in Charlotte with the rest of his “Street” pals, kickin’ up the fun in When Elmo Grows Up.  It’s a 90-minute production that’ll spark the kids’ imagination and wonder as they ask themselves the same question:  What’ll I be when I grow up??

The show uses Broadway-style music and staging to teach kids that, if they believe in themselves and work well, anything is possible (no, this is not an Obama campaign in disguise! :))  And, among the 24 songs on tap, the kids’ll be hearing some very familiar tunes like Itsy, Bitsy Spider and, of course, the Sesame Street theme song!

They’ll also get to meet the newest resident of the Street, a youngster named Abby Cadabby!  This will be her onstage debut … so be nice, okay??

this Thursday and running until Sunday!  They’re at 10:30 AM and 7:00 PM on Thursday-Friday; at 10:30 AM and 2 PM on Saturday, and at 5:30 PM on Sunday!

You can get your tickets through Ticketmaster or at the box-office. Just remember to get there early, because these shows are always tremendous hits!

The Award Goes To …

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Normally, I don’t watch a lot of TV these days — mainly due to my schedule as blogger and The Rock Relic.  But, last night, I just had to make time!

The Emmy Awards were more than glamor, fashion and fancy speeches this time; by God, it actually showed a bit of personality and heart!
By now, we all know who won and who didn’t, but there were some dynamite highlights:

For example, when Tommy Smothers won an Emmy on behalf of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.  Natch, he rambled like the “confused kid” he portrayed for so many years (in reality, Tom has a keen business mind and is quite intellectual).  But he did something that, common for the Smothers, is uncommon in awards shows:  He spoke “PEACE”:

“It’s hard for me to stay silent when I keep hearing that peace is only attainable through war. And there’s nothing more scary than watching ignorance in action,” he said, dedicating his award to “all people who feel compelled to speak out, and are not afraid to speak to power, and won’t shut up and refuse to be silenced.”

Then, a bit later, they had a reunion of all the surviving cast of Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In … and, although the camp might be wearin’ a bit then, it was worth it all just to see Gladys Hornby and Earnestine back in true form!
Their set looked as if it’d been saved from the original show … and the audience loved every minute of it!

Now, while they also had the inimitable Mary Tyler Moore and Betty White to announce Best Comedy Series — and what an honor it was to see these two legends back together again — the show outdid itself when the Matador’s March started playing.  The audience, both TV and live, knew that it could only signal “Mr. Warmth”, Don Rickles was coming to the stage!
Surely enough, he came out along with comedienne Kathy Griffin, who yelled to the audience, “GET UP!  Get on your FEET!”  After a lengthy standing-ovation, Rickles went into his routine (part teleprompted, part ad lib) and had Griffin in tears with laughter!  Not a small feat … but only he could do that!  He won two Emmys last night, btw.

I hope everyone had a great time watchin’ the show.  If ya wanna talk more about it or have any remarks, just leave ‘em in the Comments section here.

But, for now, I’ve gotta run (loads of work to catch up on).  So I’ll see ya tomorrow, okay?

Freedom Park Tonight! (and more)

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

To kick off tonight’s Festival In The Park, you’re gonna see what’s undoubtedly gonna a fantastic show of youth talent!  And, honestly, you oughtta be there if you’re not hung up at work.  Here’s why:

Y’see, the Crown Town’s future lies in the hands and hearts of our children.  Now, we’ve read reports of abuse, misuse and neglect concerning the kids — but, remember:  They’re gonna lead this town — possibly this nation — someday!!  And every ounce of support we can give them now — every bit of encouragement and respect we can muster — is gonna pay off with big dividends in the future for us!

So they’re gonna show their talent in many fields: according to the Observer promo, it’ll include music, dance, juggling, comedy, drama, martial artists, puppetry, gymnastics, storytelling and more.
Hey … can you imagine us knocking of Winston-Salem as the arts capital of the state??  If these kids are half as good as I’ve been told (by parents, their kinfolk and friends), our future’s gonna be in some beautiful hands over the next decades!

But I mentioned what they’re gonna eventually become.  That being said, here’s a vid (from the old American Bandstand) of The Knickerbockers doin’ a very special tune from the Sixties.  Listen to the lyrics … and think of the children at the same time. The words were true then, and it’s true today — just with a different … Coming Generation:

Now … make a point to get to the Park and enjoy the Festival.  The children are gonna put on a great talent show … and you’ll be amazed at the artistic future we’re looking at here in the Queen City!

‘Rasslin’, Rockin’ and Reality

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Man, I said I wasn’t gonna do it again, but …

Yep … headin’ back to hill country to do some damage … er, work … with Ohio Championship Wrestling.
But, this time, it’s gonna be just a leeeeeetle different.
I’m goin’ into the event in-character. Right: The Rock Relic is gonna be workin’ the crowd this time.

Y’know, I’ve heard a lotta readers who (when I wrote earlier posts about my travels to Kentucky) really read me the riot act about the “silliness” of this so-called “sport”.
But, to those and any other nay-sayer of the shows, let me point out a coupla-three things, okay?

  • First, professional wrestling is a physical contest; it’s just wrapped in an “entertainment” format. Whether the matches are “scripted” or not is actually a moot point; the fact is that they do work, sweat and strain to make it all look as real — and give the fans their money’s worth. It’s very physical.
  • And there’s not much difference between a good “family-friendly” wrestling card (where there’s no obscene or offensive junk) and the rock concerts of the Sixties! If you want proof of that, just visit The Rock Relic’s post on rock and wrestling.
  • But you’ve also gotta look at the fact that, honestly, pro wrestling mirrors reality! Uh-huh … because, y’see, we’re all wantin’ to put on the best show possible to please our particular “crowd” (remember “gets along well with others” on yer report card??). For some, it means taking on a different (though staged) personality (wait. You mean you’ve been watchin’ the political race and haven’t caught on to that??? lol).
The only difference is that, in reality, life is the ring, and our opponents are whatever we’re up against on a daily basis. The hard part is that we don’t have the option of going to a room and working out who’s gonna win or lose! And our “matches” are genuine!

Still, it’s gonna be a fun gig. I know many of the wrestlers on the card (including a fantastic young superstar [and former high school English teacher!], Mason Raige [see pic at top]) … and a few of the fans.
Besides, I need a break …

Answering Your Questions …

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

For awhile now, I’ve been gettin’ e-mails from around the nation and California about our little neck-of-the-woods — as well as about this site and its writer.
And now’s the time to answer ‘em — and I’ll do it in three special posts two that’ll be included next month along with the regular ones, and one that we’re gonna do right now!
Now, I’m gonna do this in the same way I did with THE FORE INTERVIEW: The questions are gonna be written here just as I received ‘em. They’ll be in the italic print, with my answers in bold:

“Why would anyone want to move to Charlotte anyway? It’s like every other big city.”

Man, you’ve gotta be kidding! Why would people wanna move here? Well, let’s see: better living conditions, more available opportunity (notice I didn’t say “jobs”. There’s a BIG difference!), friendlier hometown people, and the best education a kid could possibly get!
And “like every other big city”?? Lemme tell ya a little secret: We were the FIRST to proclaim independence from Britain back on May 20, 1775 — almost a full year before the Declaration of Independence was signed!
“… like every other big city”?? Read the next question …

“What’s in Charlotte that other cities don’t have?”

Hmmm … have ya ever had Lance crackers (you know … those little six-cracker cellophane packs)? Or shopped at Family Dollar? Or do ya bank with Bank of America? Sure, other cities have those, but we’ve got the headquarters of ‘em all!
Or how about some of the best pet care in the nation? One of the largest number of churches per capita? And Pineville’s known as one of the antique capitals of the nation!

“I have a friend who’s been to Charlotte. He says it’s to (sic) rushied (sic — I assume he means “rushed”). How can u live in a place like that?”

First, I’ve chatted with you before, on one of my other blogs, so I know you’re from a small town in Missouri. You’re not used to a fast-paced, progressive citizenry. That’s not knocking your neck-of-the-woods (I personally enjoy the “laid-back” style), but, y’see, Charlotteans are busy going somewhere with their progress! And they’re determined to get to where they’re going!
We have our peaceful, laid-back times, too (just check out Freedom Park, the neighborhoods around The Plaza, Matthews and Pineville for proof).

Now, I’ve got more of these questions comin’ up in September, so stay tuned …

COFFEE TALK IS BACK!!!

Yep … the column that I wrote for The Pineville Pioneer, Pineville Pilot, SouthEast Charlotte News and read weekly in three other area newspapers from 1986-’93 is back … and on the web with new editions every day of the week!
The only differences are that (1) it’s no longer “hard-copy” and (2) it now takes on a national scope!
BTW, the first major ish gives a nod to Pineville, where it all began. Now, you can find (and bookmark) it at Coffeetalk.today.com, and you’re all invited!
Matter of fact, why not leave yer comments and ideas on it? What I wanna do is use your thoughts and concerns as topics as we go along. (And, yes, for this, I’m pullin’ out my old Eagle get-up!!)
So, as I usedta say in the intro of the old column, “C’mon in … the doors always open!”

Trader Joe’s for UPTOWN??

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Well, I toldja this would happen …

Trader Joe’s, the superstore of discount retail markets, is gonna be opening this Fall over at the new Metropolitan retail center (where the old Outlet Square usedta be). A number of clicks back, I toldja this store was gonna really plant its roots in the Queen City, and for it to come thisclose to Uptown will be a big boost for the economy.

Now, I said Fall ’cause there’s a little bit of concern about whether it’ll really meet its October deadline (after all, it’s just two months away!). Still, it’s gonna be big, with over 13,000 square feet! The manager of our first “Joe’s” will also manage this one, btw!

A QUICK REMINDER

For you who’ve looked for my alter-ego, The Rock Relic, you can now find him at his new blog! While you’re there, leave a shout-out, okay?

The Lancaster Courthouse

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Courthouse destroyed by arsonIt’s a sad day for the town of Lancaster …

A 5:00 AM fire destroyed the stately building, which was 180 years old (designed by Robert Mills, who also designed the Washington Monument!) and still being used for court cases. Police and investigators now say that the perps who set the blaze did so on the second floor, then escaped through a back exit downstairs.

Everybody who’s ever visited this quaint town, just over the NC border and south of Pineville (but why’m I tellin’ you that?? You’ve been there, right??) has been in awe of the courthouse’s spendor and history. In 1973, the couthouse was designated a National Landmark — in part, due to its present history, and partly due to the building that was there just before this one was built in 1828 (the old one? It held the last of the witchcraft trials in the US in 1813!).

It took eight fire departments to fight the blaze, and, fortunately, no one was injured. The destruction of this monument to integrity also is a slap in the face of one of the most peaceful towns in the South — one that was rightfully proud of the courthouse and its history!
As we all were …

Some Notes on The News

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Okay, so the Jonas Brothers are coming to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on Tuesday night.
I’m also promoting a couple of UK acts, so ya might think I’m a bit jealous of these boys’ success. Actually, it’s great that they’re so popular; the music they provide is a refreshing change from the metal/rap/alternative that floods the airwaves and CDs today. Besides, they look great as well (is it my imagination, or does one of ‘em look like he could be Tom Hanks’ son??)! Yep, reckon I’m a fan, too!
But there is somethin’ that’s gotta be addressed here (other than this envelope holdin’ my water payment)! Y’see, the guys are part of the Disney conglomerate, which means they’ve got a ready-made boost. They’ve gotta prepare themselves for the inevitable day when they’re released from Mickey Manor and have to stand on their own!
They have everything it takes to maintain their momentum, but, as a promoter myself, I can’t help thinkin’ of another “brothers” act who took a lot on the chin after their big hit, MMMM-Bop. Today, Hanson still sounds great, but they’re just not getting the airplay they deserve!
They’ve not only gotta prepare for that independent “push”, but also have to realize they’ll haveta find someone new to do the books (ie, financial, management, etc.) for them. There’s a lot at stake here, and I hope they’ll be able to make the transition. But, for now, they’re superstars, sound fantastic, and are doin’ well. The concert’s bound to be a “sold-out” screamfest, and I’d recommend everyone to go … it’s gonna be fab!

Now, there’s more and more about this “pregnant man” having a “baby girl.” Honestly, I’m gettin’ a little sick of it!! Look … although “he” has no breasts and has facial hair, “he” is still a woman! To hear the tabs talk about it, it’s a miracle that this “man” had a child. Ummmm … sorry, but NO man can become pregnant. Full stop. Period. End of discussion.

ATTENTION: JIMMY PAGE FANS!

Now, here’s a rare treat for ya. Yer fave Yardbirds/Zep guitarist, performing with a skiffle band, back when he was about 14 years old! It’s got a few interviews after the song, but it’s worth the wait to hear Page at that age:

THE PROBLEM OF ACNE

Well, to most (especially teens), it is a problem. They’ll go out and buy medicine after medicine to try and fight it, but to little or no avail.
But now there’s a site where you can review the best and most effective remedies for acne! From creams to kits to soaps and more, it’ll cover the treatments that are most popular, and how effective they’ll be (they use some pretty strict criteria for that!).
You’ll also find a host of articles on the treatment of acne, and a whole lot more! And all you have to do to find the best in pimple creams and more, just click on the link you just passed.
Go there now, and get ready to clear and refresh your skin!

The Rain, The Park and Other Things

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Yup … it’s been rainin’
and you’d be surprised at how many folks aren’t complaining about it. Y’see, after the flooding that’s taken place along the Mississippi, we’re a bit humbled … and thankful … that we’re not takin’ on the heaviest of the water woes.

Still, it’s important to know what to do in the event we do have flooding over here — and it can happen in some places (ask those around Pineville, and especially in the Lakes Wylie and Norman areas!). Though most of us know what to expect and do, here’s an idea that a reader down in Alabama sent me. Betcha hadn’t thought of it, have ya?:

“… an idea that anyone can use is to rent an above-water level storage unit to put all their really important valuables into (sic). That way, they can remain safe and dry in case theres (sic) flooding.”

Sounds good. Just be sure to find one that’s secure (where they won’t be tampered with), and you’re set!

FUN AT THE PARKS

Whether you’re goin’ to Freedom Park, Pineville Park or Carowinds Park, you’re bound to have a good and relaxing time (okay … once it dries out a little!). With a zillion things to do or take in, you can relax and have some good, clean fun this summer.
But, a word to the wise (wait. Why do they say that?? I mean, don’t the “wise” already know things?? Guess it sounds better than “A word to those who don’t know better?” But, there again, would they be reading this if they … awww, nevermind …):
Wherever ya go this summer, PLEASE keep a close eye on your young’uns, okay? You’ve heard the old saying, “It’s a JUNGLE out there!” Well, it’s true … and it’s so easy for your kids to get lost, hurt … or worse … if they get away from you! So, sure … make it a fun summer; but, more importantly, make it a safe one!

AFFORDABLE INSURANCE

Y’know, there are still thousands of people around the country who don’t have good insurance — either they’re not covered or their policies don’t cover what they need. And, of course, the main culprit has been the media, which tends to make you think it’s too expensive now!
But they’re wrong, and the link I’m about to share with you will prove it!
Y’see, I’ve found a great spot that’ll not only help you find exactly what you’re needing in insurance, but also prices that’ll be easy on your budget! You’ll find auto, life, home, health, business and more here …
Why, they even have interesting articles, a list of frequently-asked questions … even insurance tools to ensure that you make the best decision and selection!
So, don’t let anyone tell ya that you can’t find affordable insurance anymore! Whether life, health or a solid auto insurance quote, it’s all there for you behind that link.
Visit there now, and get ready to save big!

Interview with the Fab FORE (Pt. II)

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

Okay, QC’ers … here’s Part 2 of the interview that’s got fans around the globe buzzin’ — and anxious to hear the rest of the story from Spencer Hannabuss (bass, vocals, songwriter, founding member), Luke Bentley (rhythm, vocals), Simon Thompson (drums, vocals) and Matt Hardy (lead, vocals) — collectively, THE FORE!
(I was told that waitin’ for Pt. 2 is like waiting for the conclusion of a popular old TV series’ two-parter. Well, I might be a batty man, but I ain’t gonna be robbin’ ya of this part –unless some joker at IP Central disconnects me!) So, without further ado, I (oh? I didn’t use gotham? Mebbe ’cause it’s made up of two separate words that can make me very hungry …) give you Pt. 2 of The Fab FORE Interview!

(Now, remember … I printed the questions out exactly as you wrote ‘em! No changes; didn’t wanna leave anything out! And, like I said before, Matt couldn’t make it to the “meeting of the minds” for this, but he had the others answer on his behalf. Oh … and two of these questions came from here in Charlotte!).

The lads’ answers are in bold type:

Spencer“Is that song Man of Few Words really about Simon the drummer? He sounds o much like Buddy Holley its (sic) gives me goose bumps. U should let him sing more sometimes.”
SPENCER: MOFW’s was originally written with Matt in mind (which funnily enough matches up with the last question about him!) but I think Matt saw it as a slight on his personality and wasn’t comfortable with singing it. Simon then joined the band and took to the song like a fish to water (again, can you really imagine anyone singing MOFWs other than Si?).
We do have another song that I’m keen to give to Simon to sing, called It Doesn’t Matter which is very Buddy Holly! I think Simon will do the song proud. Hopefully one day we’ll record it.
SIMON: I wouldn’t class myself as a “man of few words.” If I had a mic all the time you’d probably hear me joking with the guys in-between songs.

“How often does the band rehearse their songs and how do they pick the ones they do in concert?”
SPENCER: Rehearsal time is at a bit of a premium really since we’re so busy on the road all the time. Songs will often be learnt individually and then rehearsed in sound checks before being given a chance in a set.
Funnily enough, we’re talking at the moment about doing more rehearsals so that we can learn the new material for the next (second) album!
The set list for a concert is usually picked by me. I will take into account the audience that we are playing to and the time that we’re playing for. I try to ensure that the set is balanced in terms of who sings and also a varied amount of slow/medium and fast-paced numbers in it.

'Luker'“I’d like to ask Neil and David got to be managers. Do they have anybody to help them like secretarys (sic) or promoters? As good as the band is, they could have managed the Beatles!”
NEIL WHITE (co-manager): No, no one to help us in the UK (could do with a secretary, though!) but Chuck is doing an awesome job across the pond. Dave and I just work it out between us. We don’t mind what we do, from being roadies, publishing the website and Fore-um to booking gigs and talking to promoters. To be honest, we just do as much as time allows with help from the band. It’s all enjoyable and, of course, the aim being to get these guys signed! (not sure we deserve the Beatles compliment though, but thanks! lol)
SPENCER: Both Neil and David have made a huge impact on our lives. Music aside, we all feel that N&D are good, trustworthy friends and I wouldn’t swap them for anyone. I’m sure they’d be the first to admit that a lot of the good work that goes on behind the scenes wouldn’t happen if it weren’t for our satellite helpers across the world whom, without their help, we wouldn’t have the presence outside of our own country.
We will always encourage outside help from anyone and are always happy to talk to people wanting to lend a hand in our push for that record contract!

“When will we see the new CD come out? If its half as good as your other one its going to go platnum (sic).”
SPENCER: Well, who knows? We have just booked up our first session in the studio for 6th September through to 12th September. We may need a second session, which is likely to be in October. I’d like to record around 20 songs and then choose an album of 14-15 songs from that. Maybe the other songs could be release at a later date!
SIMON: It’ll be the ”must-have’ Christmas present!

“What do the band members like to do on their days off from performing?”
SPENCER: You mean … there are days that we aren’t performing?? :) At the moment, time off is very scarce. I’ve just adopted a couple of fluffy cats so they’re taking up quite a bit of time at the moment. Their names are “Womble” and “Muffin.”
SIMON: If I’m not banging my drums onstage, you’ll probably hear me banging my Roland kit at home, or crashing out in front of my big TV in my new apartment watching American TV shows.
LUKE: Well, we all work full-time so we don’t get much time off at all! But if we do, we like to have a beer and chill out.

“What is each band member’s favorite color?”
SPENCER: Always liked Red (I’ve only owned red cars), but black and brown are two of my favorite colours to wear.
LUKE: Blue!! I love the blue!!
SIMON: You’ve probably guessed already (that) it’s black. I like the old style Beatles look so I wear it when I can onstage.

“When will we see them in the US? I hope soon. They are the best thing to hapen (sic) to rock and roll music since the Beatles and we sure need their music over here.”
SPENCER: Well, we want to come over, too. We need to get more exposure over in the states, and, when the time is right and that breakthrough happens, we’ll be over like a shot!
SIMON: Well, I’ll be in North Carolina (though Raleigh) & Virginia in August attending a wedding but that doesn’t count. But I hope soon as well! As soon as we get the call I’ll pack my bags and jet off to all you lovely Carolina Foreheads!

Simon“I like the acting they did on Love For Sale on youtube. The dog was precious. Was he any one of theirs? They could go into movies they are all so good looking.”
SPENCER: “Flea” belongs to Matt’s brother-in-law (who’s also called Matt!). Some might say that the dog out-performed the band … :)
SIMON: Gee shocks, thank you! “Flea” is owned by Matt’s brother-in-law who was the brains behind the video and scripting.”

Hey …GUESS WHAT?? I’m gonna give the lads a break for a few hours, but, since you’ve sent in six more questions, I’m gonna conclude “The fab FORE Interview” in TOMORROW’S ish! If you think you know ‘em now, just wait until ya read what’s comin’ up …

But, for now, I’ve gotta feed the cats (or, those who haven’t already eaten most of my peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich that I had on the desk!), flip off the RockStation for about a circle of minutes (360) and get some sleep! So, until tomorrow’s edition, remember the words of the Relic:

Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side!

The SpongeTones Effect

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Being an old Rock Relic, I keep a close eye on the world of “oldies”, “”classic rock” and those who pay tribute/emulate or revive it.
There are only two bands I’ve found that actually does that, IMHO. One (and, undoubtedly, the fastest-growing) is based in England. The Fore didn’t set out to have a Merseyside/Hamburg sound, though; it just came naturally. And they don’t do “covers”; their music is 100% self-composed! You can find out more about them at their site or at The Rock Relic site.

But the other is a four-man band based right here in Charlotte! While The SpongeTones first started as a cover/tribute ensemble, they quickly grew and developed their own sound around some dynamite self-compositions!
And they have a great fanbase across America … and in the UK! I remember the first time I heard them: They were doin’ Please Mr. Postman ala The Beatles … and, while the music was “spot-on”, the vocals were a bit amateurish!
But MAN!! have these guys improved over the years! No wonder mates of mine from Arizona, California, New York, Canada and London are sold on ‘em!
So, to Jamie Hoover and friends, congrats! You’ve not only made a significant dent in the music world, but have also made us VERY proud of the fact that you’re from this side of the trax!!
(Geez … I feel like I’m in Liverpool circa 1965 or somethin’! LOL) Seriously: If ya get a chance to buy one of their CDs, do it! You’ll definitely like whatcha hear! Or read more about ‘em at this site. Better yet, be sure to take ‘em in live whenever they’re in your neck-of-the-woods, okay??

THE FAIRER FAUCET

One of the best faucets on the market today are the bar-style ones; they’re convenient, space-saving and more dependable than the old “L”-shaped ones that stick out and get in everyone’s way.
Now, if you’ve still got the old ones installed on your sink, believe me: you’ll be 100% happier with modern, classy, easy-to-clean bar faucets. I’ve used one for years, and wouldn’t have an “old” model again if ya gave it to me!
And the best place to find these faucets — at great prices, to boot — is found right behind that link you saw a second ago. But there’s more: You also can choose your brand, style, finish, configuration — even price range! I mean, they really go all out to provide you with the faucet that’ll be perfect for your sink or lavatory!
So check ‘em out today, okay??

Hard Rock Park

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

IT’S OPEN!!

And what a rush it is to see soooooo many bloggers, writers, announcers and acts from around the world covering Myrtle Beach’s newest and grooviest attraction, Hard Rock Park! (In fact, the Relic’s heard that some are callin’ the area Myrtle Beat! Yeah … kinda unfair. We Kackalackians know that MB’s the home of beach music … and that’s the true “Myrtle Beat”!)

Performers are loadin’ up almost as quickly as the fans (who are in looooove with Mt. Rockmore — sorta like Mr. Rushmore but with Elvis, John, Bob and Jimi enshrined on it); they’re lookin’ to get gigs there, because they know a winner when they see it!

Now, with vacations comin’ up, you might wanna know how to get there, right? Okay … here ’tis:
From Charlotte: I-77 S toward Columbia. Exit 16A to I-20 E to I-20 Spur E. Take Palmetto St., US-76 E to SC-576 E, which becomes US-501 S. Follow 501-S directions above.

This is one spot you don’t wanna miss touring, people! (Oh … did I mention the Moody Blues, Eagles and Charlie Daniels are on tap to perform there this year?) You can take the Whole Lotta Love ride (this rascal blasts off with a noise that’s ten times louder than a jet landing … so now you know the kids’ll wanna go!), or the Nights In White Satin: The Trip experience (yep, both of these have the OK — and input — from the bands that made the songs famous).

So, to quote the great Shredder (what?? You mean nobody watches Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles anymore?? Geez …) GO. PLAY. HAVE FUN.

THIS OUGHTTA CLEAR IT UP

One thing that bugs just about every teen at one time or another (and a lot of adults, too!) is acne! Even the word sounds a bit nasty. And there are so many oils, salves, pills, pads and poppers on the market that say they can help … but don’t deliver the goods!
Psssst …
There’s a new product that really does take care of the problem, once and for all! Already, it’s gotten 25,000 solidly satisfied customers who say it’s the best treatment in the world!
It’s not a “long-and-drawn-out” treatment, but one that’ll work for ya within 24 hours! It’s a one-step, natural acne solution … and you can get it at a fantastic price! All you’ve gotta do is click on this link for the most remarkable natural acne treatments … and get ready to say a permanent “goodbye” to those blackheads and blemishes!
Believe me, your face’ll love you for it!
