Charlotte’s March Against Abuse

by

NO MORE ABUSED PARTNERS!!On Aug. 16, 32-year-old Sonia Long was killed. Two days later, on Aug. 18, 25-year-old Tina Choate Hosch died at the hands of her ex-boyfriend. Then, last week, Tina Callahan was killed by her husband,Bryan, who then committed suicide.

As I said in the last post, THIS MADNESS HAS GOTTA STOP!

On this coming Thursday, Charlotte has a chance to take charge of this situation … a chance to stand up for women’s safety …
the chance to say,

NO MORE ABUSE!!

On Thursday, September 5, a march against domestic violence will be held from 12:15 to 1 p.m. in response to these murders, including last week’s murder-suicide. The march begins at the Square (the junction of Trade and Tryon Streets). Now, for more about domestic violence or (especially) for help, call the Shelter for Battered Women 24-hour hot line at 704-332-2513 (write that number down … in case you or someone you know will need it!).

A QUICK POSTSCRIPT: Listen … many of us were children of the Sixties. The power of our voice, united, influenced the end of a war; the power of our voice, united as one, brought an end to the worst of racial violence and strife; the power of our voice, united in marches and protest, gave women the rights they so richly deserved.

Today, women around the Queen City … in fact, the nation … are needing the right to a safe, abuse-free life. Have we lost the “united voice” we had so many years ago? If not, be at the march on Thursday! It won’t take that long … and it can make a world of difference!
