Heroic But Dangerous
Whether you were watching local news yesterday morning, MSNBC or the Today Show, you undoubtedly saw the amazing video of a KFC employee wrestling with a would-be robber.
To many, this was a heroic act worthy of appreciation by both community and the franchise itself.
I agree — to a point. You see, had it not been for a single misfired round, this story would’ve had a completely different ending. And while it’s laudable that the young male employee fought back and, to a degree, won, his actions could inspire other employees to take on robbers in the same method.
And that could be dangerous. Most store manuals will tell you that, if anyone attempts to strong-arm rob money or goods from their establishment, employees should comply in as peaceful manner as possible. This is to prevent the already-jumpy perpetrator from becoming “trigger-happy.”
Fortunately, the robber in this case got away with zilch. But, for a weapon that failed to fire, the brave employee’s still alive and well. His determination, attitude and spunk is appreciated … and, I guess, a matter of “seizing the moment.” Fortunately, it worked.
(Hey … since I’m back in the wrestling game, y’reckon this guy would ….? Naaaaah ….)
