On The Road Again …

by The Rock Relic

Headin’ back to Ashland for the wrestling gig, I’ve found a few things to jawjack about … now that I’ve finally made it through Fancy Gap …

First, if you’re goin’ through this stretch of 77, please be careful! The area’s had a heckuva double snow (ie, snow-ice-snow), and the roads are slick in a lotta places. Already ran across a coupla fender-benders and one T-bone along the pike. Of course, this can happen on Belvedere Avenue or South Boulevard as well as I-77, 85 or 64, so be careful, especially in icy conditions …

Second, be sure you’ve got antifreeze in your car, as well as plenty of oil! One guy was frantically standin’ on the side of the road this side of Beckley, tryin’ to avoid traffic while waiting for a tow-truck. Steam was pourin’ out his hood (I mean, of his car! ‘Course, it coulda been just as well from under his hoodie for all I know …). I had that happen once, back during my insurance days way-back-when. Fortunately, one of my clients helped pull me to a station down on Independence Boulevard …

Third, always … always … always watch out for the “other guy”! Those old commercials we usedta watch on channel 3 are just as true now as they were back then. Follow at least a car length for every 10 miles per hour you’re driving!

And, lastly: BE PROUD YOU’RE A TARHEEL! You’d be surprised at how many Carolina-blue sweaters and jackets I’ve seen along the way … (funny, I haven’t seen a whole lot of Kentucky blue yet — of course, we know the color God used for the sky, right??).

We live in one of the most comfortable, laid-back and progressive communities in the nation. Though Charlotte’s considered a near-megalopolis (c’mon … look it up!), it doesn’t take much more than driving gran-maw goin’ up a steep, kinda-slushy-kinda-icy-always-tricky hill somewhere outside Podunk to make ya realize “there’s no place like home!”

More from the gig-site tomorrow …

OH, to be in the OUTER BANKS right about now …

Man, with this weather hittin’ so much of the area, it’d be a good time to be at the Outer Banks right now! No matter whether it’s chilly or not, the fact is that it’s peace personified! Clean, ocean-scented air … beautiful sand dunes, wonderful people … and gorgeous sunrises/sets!
And there’s one place that’ll help you find the perfect rental home to go along with that beauty! Carolina Designs Realty has been placing folks in the vacation home of their dreams for over 19 years now, and cover sweet vacation spots like Corolla, Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk (remember the Wright Brothers?), Nags Head (truly a legendary spot) and others!
Listen … you need a good place to unwind, right?? Well, this company gives you a chance to truly enjoy the relaxing, soothing sounds of the beach while just lounging on the front porch of your peaceful corner-of-the-world, sippin’ a cool Pepsi or Cheerwine. Just let ‘em know the area you want, how many bedrooms, price range, etc. — all from the comfort of their front page — and, by one click of your mouse, they’ll show ya the ones that are available! Want beachfront? One that allows pets? A simple “click” will do it!!
