The news reports about a young man from Iredell County taking indecent liberties with a minor he’d met on MySpace aren’t really alarming anyone, it seems.
But there’s a reason: Reports like these are becoming all too commonplace around the world. And we’ve been inundated with so many NBC Dateline™ segments about chat rooms and subsequent stings that many predators are using other webside ways of seducing youngsters … many of them even using public sites like MySpace to do it.

The bottom line can be brief and succinct here: Parents, MONITOR YOUR KIDS! Whether they’re on MySpace, Instant Messengers, chat rooms or whatever,monitor them!
TALK with them, and let them know the facts,cold and hard if need be, about what can happen … If you suspect any shady activity, get their usernames and passwords if necessary (on the premise that they can’t use the home PC until they do!

Now, the problem stems, not from MySpace but, from people (especially kids) not knowing how to keep themselves in check on the site. That’s why so many predators like it: the kids wanna exercise their freedom on it, and feel like it’s a release from parenta/other pressures. To “seek the thrill” is a big “rush” to them.

But the cost … the price to pay … is WAY to high to take a chance.
